(The MEAT of this post is at the very end… scroll to the bottom to skip my banter if you just want the Main Course for today.)

BigSis’s LONG intro to a SHORT Story:

As I have recently disclosed, we have entered our second Big Birthday Season of the year–we’ve got four Birthdays in 5 weeks!

Yesterday (August 5, 2013) kicked off the season with Nalia turning THREE!

And next week we have Wyatt… followed by Kaleb and then Dusty.

So anyway, this morning I was telling Dusty about some toys at a local shop that were on “Super-Sale” and were age-appropriate for Wyatt.  Items marked down around 70%, and on sale for only one more day.

But as we talked it through, we realized that the items on sale, although truly a good price, were NOT items that would be especially liked by our Wyatt.  His little heart would appreciate something else so much more.  I realized that I needed to take a step back and assess this gift-buying decision NOT BASED ON PRICE ALONE but by recognizing the fact that this gift is for MY BABY.  I needed to consider what would be Best for Wyatt ahead of my pocketbook.

To help me with my decision I asked myself this question:

IF THAT ITEM WAS BEING SOLD FOR FULL PRICE, WOULD I STILL BUY IT?…

“NO.”

Case closed.

Pressure off.

No pushy-purchase-deadline to meet.

Not all of you will be able to relate to this, but a good handful of you will…

How many items in your home do you own because they were “a good deal”?

And how many of those items do you actually LOVE?

I’m not saying that its bad to be on the lookout for a bargain… I LOVE a Great-Bargain myself!!!  What I am saying is that “Bargains” are not the be-all-that-ends-all; and whether or not an item is a “Bargain” should NOT determine whether or not you purchase it, nor does it immediately follow that you “Need” it.  In fact, you probably don’t.

Next time you are faced with a “Bargain” that you feel you should not pass up ask yourself first…

“If this was being sold for Full-Price would I still buy it and Love it

OR

is this just going to end up on the ever-mounting pile of crap in my home?

Take this precious couple…. I cannot presume to know exactly what’s in those bags, but I’m guessing it starts with C and ends with P.

Bu hey!  On second thought… Maybe I’m wrong… They look Totally Happy with their C _ _ P

Now for the MAIN EVENT…

Worth Full Price

While chatting with Dusty about the gift situation this morning I was suddenly brought back to a little Gas Station in the middle of no-man’s-land… in Chamberlain South Dakota.

Heather and I pulled in to refuel during a road-trip.

(By the way, if you don’t know Heather… I’m sorry for you… she’s AWESOME!)

At the checkout counter there was a jovial woman who commented on the turquoise blazer that Heather was wearing, specifically telling her how Amazing she looked in it.

Heather thanked her kindly and went on to share that she had found said blazer at such-n-such store “for a really good deal“.

At this the woman Kindly-Chided (but mostly Complimented) Heather in saying,

“Honey–You are worth FULL PRICE.”

Bargain aside.  THAT GIRL was meant for THAT BLAZER because it looked stunning on her!  NOT because it was a good deal.

I have no idea what the rest of the trip was about.  I can’t even remember where our final destination was.  But that place and moment will be etched in my mind for all time:

The little Gas Station in the middle of no-where where the clerk spoke

TRUTH over Logic.  LIFE over Reason.

VALUE and WORTH over Bargain.

And I now declare over you with the same certainty as Heather’s gas station clerk:

“HONEY, YOU ARE WORTH FULL PRICE!”

Amen.
