At Liethfield Beach… watching my kids build a barricade wall against the ocean.
The first one they built was completely demolished by a single teeny-tiny… I mean liiittle… wave. They’ve moved their efforts up-shore a bit and have now built a 6 foot long by 2 foot high wall and are loving every second of it.
Funny as I look at their puny little wall in comparison to the VAST ocean beyond it! Their happily labored-upon wall that will surely be destroyed in the next short hours as soon as the tide reaches its mark on the beach.
Makes me think how so much of our lives are like this scenario… building walls against the ocean. Lots of work and sweat, fun and creativity, team-work and laughter. All that effort poured into something that is momentary… even meaningless … in the whole scheme of things.
And yet… IS IT???
What about the “BUILDING” that is taking place in each of my babies Hearts right now?
Surely—even if the physical structure they’ve built fades away—what has been built upon their sweet little hearts will remain… Won’t it!?
“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” – Psalm 127:1
Precious Lord… May every project we pour ourselves into produce something Beautiful and Lasting… even if only in our hearts. May we not waste a moment of time on vain pursuits, but may we also remember not to discount labor “spent” in areas that may appear to be futile but that YOU are actually behind!
